Superfood Green Smoothie Bowl Recipe

Superfood Green Smoothie Bowl Recipe

Have your smoothie and eat it, too!

I’m a big fan of smoothies (and corny jokes if you couldn’t tell). They’re an easy and delicious way to pack a ton of nutrients in your breakfast and refuel after a workout.

However, I often hear from people that no matter how many ingredients they put in their smoothie, they’re often hungry an hour or two later. That’s because a lot of the digestive process has been done for you by the blender, and the smoothie is providing a quick and easy source of energy.

Solution: Smoothie Bowls. Chewing food is an important (and often overlooked) part of the digestive process, and can help increase satiety and feelings of fullness. A smoothie bowl allows you to slow down and chew your food, while still getting all of the same nutrients and some fun toppings. Keep these ingredients on hand to whip up an awesome meal in no time!

SUPERFOOD GREEN SMOOTHIE BOWL RECIPE (1 SERVING):

Smoothie Bowl:

  • 1/2 cup spinach

  • 1/2 cup kale

  • 1/2 ripe banana

  • 1/2 ripe Hass avocado, pitted

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder — I used LifeSource’s Vanilla Whey Isolate

  • 3/4 cup almond, coconut, or pea milk — I used Ripple’s Unsweetened Pea Milk

  • Optional: 1-2 tablespoons 100% natural nut butter (peanut, almond or cashew)

Toppings (all optional):

  • Remaining 1/2 banana, sliced

  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup berries

  • 1-2 tbsp. flax, hemp or chia seeds

  • 1-2 tbsp. shredded coconut

  • 1-2 tbsp. goji berries

  • 1-2 tbsp. granola — I use Ezekiel Sprouted Grain Cereal

DIRECTIONS:

  • Combine all smoothie ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. I have a Vitamix and absolutely love it!

  • Pour into a large bowl

  • Add toppings as desired and enjoy!
