Baked Fruit with Walnuts and Honey

Baked Fruit with Walnuts and Honey

A healthier version of a classic fall treat

‘Tis the season for fruit crisps, cobblers and pies… one of the many reasons why fall is the best! But with these high-sugar, butter-filled desserts at every weekend gathering, it can be easy to fall off the health wagon.

That’s why we love having healthier options available that do not comprise on taste, like this one! Inspired by SkinnyTaste’s Baked Pears with Walnuts and Honey, we added two of our favorite fruits to the recipe, peaches and apples, and it took it to a whole other level.

With just a few simple ingredients and five minutes of prep-time, you can have a light and super satisfying fall treat. And don’t worry, there’s no need to make a separate dessert for friends or family looking for a bit more classic-fall indulgence — add some vanilla ice cream and whipped cream and you’re good to go!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Baking Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Yield: Serves 8-12

BAKED FRUIT WITH WALNUTS AND HONEY:

Ingredients:

  • 2 large ripe peaches

  • 2 large apples (any variety, we used gala)

  • 2 large ripe pears

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

  • 2 tbsp. local honey

  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

Optional Ingredients:

  • Vanilla or Greek yogurt

  • Whipped cream (pictured above)

  • Vanilla ice cream (we love Halo Top vanilla bean as a lower sugar, high-protein option )

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.

  2. Cut the peaches, apples and pears in half. Also cut off a small section off the bottom of each half so the fruit can lay flat. Place on a baking sheet.

  3. Use a small spoon to scoop out the pit and seeds; creating a hole large enough to hold the walnuts.

  4. Sprinkle each with cinnamon, top with chopped walnuts and drizzle with honey.

  5. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes or until fruit is soft and tender (the pears may take slightly longer).

  6. Serve immediately (adding the optional ingredients if desired) and enjoy!
